Our heroic volunteers are probably coming out of the Education and Public Works Committee hearing in Columbia as I write this. Last week, we had a unanimous vote in the Motor Vehicles subcommittee to strike the "until" and conditions following it. The bill was thus changed from "South Carolina will not implement REAL-ID until..." to "South Carolina shall not implement REAL-ID." Previously the bill had said that SC would implement REAL-ID when the Feds provided the money and made sure of individual privacy and security.
Special thanks goes to legislators Eric Bedingfield, Mike Mulvaney, and Nathan Ballentine for all their help in getting this going. Of course, many others have been involved as well.
So far eleven states have enacted bills as we are attempting to, declining to implement REAL-ID. For a current list, please visit this website:
